The Vienna Flute Mozartet feels devoted to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who was commissioned by a rich Dutch flute amateur to write three concertos and some quartets for the flute. Sadly Mozart fulfilled only a part of his obligations, but at least left four quartets. Well known is the close friendship between Mozart and the considerably older Joseph Haydn which was based on highest mutual respect. Haydn had invented and developed the art of writing quartets for two violins, viola and violoncello, the classical string quartet. Soon there were also quartets with one wind instrument (flute or oboe) and string trio. Beside Mozart composers like Michael Haydn, Ignaz Pleyel, Adalbert Gyrowets and others contributed original compositions. Furthermore transcriptions of popular operas for flute and string trio were quite common. After Alina Pinchas, Tobias Lea and Tamas Varga having often performed as a string trio Dieter Flury joined them to explore the rich heritage of Viennese music for flute and string trio and to contrast it with music of 19th and 20th century.
